Margie Merritt is currently an Associate Producer at ABC’s Good Morning America, where she writes and produces pieces for the show.
She collaborates closely with GMA’s Senior and Executive Producers to produce daily cold-opens, highlighting the best moments to come in that day’s broadcast, along with researching and pitching stories, setting up and booking crews for interviews, conducting interviews for tape pieces, gathering and editing video elements, and purchasing and clearing video and photo content for broadcast.
Prior to working at Good Morning America, Merritt attended Columbia University where she obtained a Master of Science in Journalism with an emphasis on visual storytelling. While at Columbia, she produced a 5,000-word master’s thesis project about issues that mentally-ill people face when reentering society from prison.
Merritt’s reporting focused largely on issues within New York City, such as the large portion sizes in many of the city’s restaurants that are leading to the rising obesity rates in the city, the growing underbanked community in New York City and the challenges with homeless voters in New York City.
Prior to attending Columbia University, Merritt attended Hampton University, an HBCU in Hampton, Virginia where she majored in strategic communications. While at Hampton, Merritt was the Executive Producer of the on-campus television show, WHOV-TV, and served as the Director of Communications for the Student Government Association. In that capacity she doubled the social media following on Instagram and Twitter.
In her spare time she enjoys cooking, traveling, and binge watching the latest tv series.
